Stop the tax increase on truckies

On Friday 29 November, Ministers will vote on a proposal to hike up truck fuel tax and registration charges by 11.8 per cent over three years.

Transport is Australia’s deadliest industry, marked by high numbers of truck crash deaths, chronic health problems and financial struggle. In 2016, the Federal Government scrapped a road safety watchdog that addressed the squeeze from the top of the supply chain, and has put nothing in its place.

Now the government is planning to heap additional financial pressure on truck drivers and operators that will cause further safety risks, while continuing to ignore the cost cutting from wealthy companies at the top of the supply chain.
